Hey there! Former resident of your homestead here! Wanted to let you know that we had a couple of rock doves show up occasionally while we lived there. (Trying to find some photos for you...) They never stuck around long, so maybe they were migrating? Anyway so happy were able to save this guy and that he's found a home with you! Love reading your essays. Say hello to my Grey Jays for me!
MJ! Wonderful to hear from you! I need to remember to check in with you when something different arrives here. Your Gray Jays had themselves a little raspberry feast yesterday. The rut is underway, lots of bugling happening these days.
I sooo miss the bugeling! We have tons of deer here, but compared to the Mulies and the elk they look like Great Danes with antlers! Enjoy the sounds of the rut...it was one of the most exciting and enjoyable parts of our experience there. :)
Did you ever name the lovely and brave pigeon. What nice people you are! We humans can be so cruel to each other and animals yet we have this streak of kindliness as well. Would that the streak overcome the cruelty.
Thank you! Ah, naming is a dangerous thing. Since there is only one pigeon though, he's just been 'Pigeon'. As for humans, we have our share of good stories there too, but humans are a trickier beast to manage at times. Everyone doing their best is all we can ask for.
UPDATE: About a week ago, we couldn't find 'Pidgy' and a walk about the property revealed several piles of pigeon colored feathers. Caught by a predator, perhaps a Sharp-shinned hawk that we have been hearing the call of recently. Likely, first caught by the hawk and then polished off by a fox. This is nature, and he has fed others in his time on earth.
